Even though I’d already analyzed it 20 times over, I checked the forecast one more time before calling Shane [Dorian] to see what his program was. He was in Canada at the time, so we just started to put the pieces together from there with the help of his wife. The immediate plan was that we’d both red-eye it into LAX, meet up at the Sheraton on Wednesday morning, have my lifejackets dropped off at the airport just before I get on the flight, then hop on the eight-hour flight to Tahiti from there.
