Boost Mobile Pro Rolls On In Pumping Conditions

Categories:

RB_Boost_Adriano_Sml.jpgThe surf continues to pump, and the boys continue to flare. Adriano and Mick have certainly set the pace, and what a mean pace it is. With four- to six-foot southwest sets continuing to pulse for the second day of competition at the Boost Mobile Pro, the performance level out at Lowers has been downright ridiculous. Still looking for his first win of the 2008 campaign, Mick appears to be the man to beat, implementing his wraps, carves and off-the-tops with effective precision. Adriano on the other hand seems to constantly be surfing in fifth gear. All year the kid from Brazil's thoroughly been getting the job done, and considering rumors on the beach have Adriano relocating to San Clemente, he's looking quite at home here in Orange County. All that said, Bruce is also rolling and snapped out of his Round 1 funk. The less he cares the better he does, which is a dangerous thing. Stay tuned as the comp rolls on.
Top Five Waves of Day 2:
1.    Dane's near-perfect 9.97 was a thing of beauty, blending power and innovation, this wave was evidence why the boys on tour consider him hands down one of the best surfers in the world.
2.    With a 9.33 Jordy finally put on the performance everybody's been waiting for. Could this be the start of a South African breakout?
3.    Parko also tallied a 9.33, which makes him very much look like a contender.
4.    Taylor Knox may be the oldest guy on tour, but he hardly looks the part. An obvious fan of Lowers, his power game's been spot on thus far.
5.    Heitor Alves, the hardly heard from Brazilian, took out Freddy Patacchia, and in the process showed Adriano's not the only South American to watch out for.

Most Ridiculous Thing Said:
"Lets draw on the baby." Kolohe Andino to a group of friends after seeing the author's 4-month-old baby asleep on a couch in the VIP area.

Most Defining Moment:
We've seen some good things from Dane this year, but after all the hype and hoopla Jordy Smith finally demonstrated why he came into his rookie season touted as a world beater. He absolutely flared in the dying minutes of his heat against Damien Hobgood, and may now be in the rhythm he's so desperately been looking for.

Upset of the Day:
I guess you'd call Yadin Nicol besting Andy Irons the upset of the day, but in reality it wasn't much of an upset, Andy was practically out of it before it even began.

Insight That Would Have Helped Your Team If We'd Only Known:
For all of those Neco Padaratz fans, the Brazilian veteran surfed Round 1, but pulled out due to injury in Round 2, giving Chris Ward a free ride through. Don't know if that really would have changed your Fantasy Surfer team, but now a fresh Wardo faces off against Jordy, which should be interesting.

Talk of the Beach:
Dane and Jordy stoll the day. After announcing their arrival last year at the Boost Mobile Pro they proved their hear to stay, not to met

Wildcard Report:
And the wildcards just keep on coming. As mentioned above, Yadin upset Andy and now faces Mick Fanning. Can he capture a little of last year's wildcard magic? Oh, and for what it's worth wildcard Sunny Garcia squares off against Kelly Slater, which should be an absolute cracker of a heat.

You Know You're In Orange County When...
There's not a surf vehicle to be seen and the parking lot's gridlocked with Beamers, Benzes, and Escalades.
