Lowers Under Fire: Mick, Andy, Bruce, Adriano and Gang Take Aim At 2008 Boost Mobile Pro
Mortar fire rumbled through the morning fog, morbidly rolling over the hills and down to the beach. Blast after blast, round after round, the boys from Pendleton hammered away. All the while, Mick Fanning, Adriano De Souza and Royden Bryson were in the water, readying themselves for the impending battle...

or actually competiting in the event. Today all they'd come to do was
see if the comp was on and have a stretch, but going up against hordes
of wannabes, disgruntled construction workers on funboards, and
hangers-on seemed like a war in and of itself. Either way, Mick,
Adriano and Royden were all looking particularly smooth. Mick was
linking long rights with hispatented wraps and gouges,while Adriano,
who kind of stuck to the insiders, had good energy and pace on his
turns. Andy and Bruce didn't make it down for the early morning
session, but Andy just got back from a brief run down to Mexico, and by
trips end had found some solid footing. It's going to beinteresting to
see how this all plays out over the course of the next week. There's
some good looking south swell on tap, so there's going to be waves, and
that means there's going to be fireworks.
