Red Bull Rider's Cup: And the Winner Is...

The flames of rivalries were stoked, lines were drawn in the sand (only to be erased by the high tide), and it came down to brother against brother at the 2008 Red Bull Riders Cup National Championships. Held on the cobblestone point at Trestles known simply as "Church" (a fitting name for any western shoot-out), the swell poured through all weekend
long, giving opportunity to the best high school surf squads from around the country
to test both their mettle and manhood. But come finals time, crosstown rivals San
Clemente High and Carlsbad High would be the only two standing. Read the whole shocking saga here...

Brotherly Love

On a recent south swell Kolohe "Brother" Andino joined Carissa Moore and Surfline's Sean Collins for some pointbreak perfection down in mainland Mexico, and as you can tell by the photos, they scored. After getting back Brother spent a few days at home surfing Lowers before shipping off to represent Team USA at the 2008 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships.
Postcards from Nantucket

Talley Ho! Reporting from Nantucket here and the Red Bull Nights School. The boys have really gotten
into the culture here as you'll see from some of the clothing they have
acquired. Real Waves and glassy conditions! Yes. What a great morning at Night
School. Everybody was on it early in the morning to beat the Nantucket
On-shores. A head high swell came thru and the boys were both paddling
and towing. Sam Hammer, Randy Townsend and Billy Hume were laying into
the swell with gouges and airs.

Ultra-Super-Fantastic-Mega Red Bull Night School Gallery

After a week's worth of tow-ats, a solid little swell along the Nantucket coastline, and more cases of Red Bull than you can shake a stick at we figured you might want to see what the Night School students have been up to. Kinda makes you want to go out and finance a jet ski, doesn't it?

Last Days In Tahiti

It was another successful year in Tahiti for the Red Bull squad. While the final of the Billabong Pro was claimed by two wildcards, Andy, Bruce and Adriano all found their way into the quarters, which ain't half bad. As the swell declined throughout the final day the bombs that Andy and Bruce depend on weren't as readily available, but for Adriano, it didn't much matter. Throughout the event he was in a good groove, and as a result posted the best finish in Tahiti of his career. All three surfers took very respectable fifth-place finishes, and more importantly, made up some ground on the hunt for the 2008 ASP World Title.

Irons Drop The Curtain In Tahiti

If we've learned anything over the years it's that Andy and Bruce Irons are ridiculous when it comes to their ability at Teahupoo. And in flawless four- to six-foot conditions they've proved it once again. The Billabong Pro wraps up today, but for now enjoy some of the sights from the scene.

Conditions remained clean throughout the day, and as you can see by the photos, the Red Bull crew certainly enjoyed a break in the monotony.

Beyond The Trials

With the Billabong Pro just about to begin, Teahupoo grinned and showed it's teeth. Jamie O'Brien, Jamie Sterling, and others were on it, and as you can tell, they scored. All photos courtesy Joli.

XXL Extravaganza

First and foremost, a huge congratulations goes out to Maya Gaberia, who last night received the Billabong Girl's Best Overall Performance Award at the Billabong XXL Awards.
After her harrowing session at Teahupoo last November it's safe to say
she earned it. Now that that's out of the way, after going to these
big-wave hootenannies for the better part of 10
years think I’ve finally
figured out how to safely navigate this night with a bit of dignity. Read the rest of the story here...

Pimp Your Board w/ Sofia!

'This was a cool day at my home beach in Punta Hermosa, Peru. Red Bull
created a contest for 25 girls between the ages of 10 and 16 to come out to
the beach and paint a blank surfboard shaped canvas, with the hopes of me
choosing their design. I was overwhelmed by the preparation many of the
girls did before they arrived, they had their designs planned out on paper
and they were working so hard. It was difficult to pick a winning design
because they were all so good and creative.'

Highlights From The 2008 Irons Brothers Pine Trees Classics

Every spring the Irons boys get all the kids from Hanalei together for the annual Irons Brothers Pine Trees Classic. This year marked another successful extravaganza. A free contest for anybody old enough to drag a longboard down to the shore, with prizes galore, kids ended the day walking away with inter-island airline tickets, backpacks, boardbag, boards, shoes and just about anything else you see stocked in your local surf shop. Oh yeah, Tamba was also down there grinding out free shave ice for everyone, so yes, it was a truly Hawaiian affair. Cheers to another good year boys!
