Out of my Head premiered Friday, April 3rd during the
Quiksilver ISA World Juniors being held in Guayaquil, Ecuador. The
film, produced by Quiksilver, showcases the best Latin American breaks
and surf talent, including Gabriel, Sofia Mulanovich and 15 year old
charger Cristobal de Col (competing in the ISA World Juniors Boys Under
16 category).
"Out of my Head is more than just my surfing, it tells about
the highs and lows in my life and has allowed me to bring together some
of the surfers I find most inspiring today," says Gabriel Villaran. "By
sharing this film with the next generation of Latin American chargers
at the ISA World Juniors, hopefully we can show them what's possible
and give them the inspiration to take surfing to an even higher level
in the future."
Sitting 19th on the 'QS right now. There's still plenty of time, but could really use a couple more solid results. A lot of work, but definitely an improvement.
Red
Bull has been one of the best things that has ever happened to me, they
are extremely supportive of me and have been for many years. I feel
priviledged to be a part of the Red Bull family!
If there are waves I surf, if not I go fishing or scuba diving, but my life is always around the ocean.
Just a quick check in. I'm pretty much mended from all my various injuries. But mate, it sure takes a lot longer to heal as you get older. It's no fun at all.
The new movie Dear and Yonder's out. It's great. I'm really stoked on how it all turned. It's fantastic to see all the girls surfing so well and with so much grace. I've had some fun times in California, but I'm really anxious for the tour to start back up and get back into that mode. We've had such a long break, it's hard to keep focused. But still, this has been a great summer.
I'm so stoked. I was invited to go to the Titleist training center and got to work with master putter maker Scotty Cameron. It was really amazing to see all the work that goes into building golf clubs, a lot of technology involved. I've got a new, custom putter on the way. Don't know if it'll make a difference, but it's going to be a lot of fun to take out on the course and play around with.
A ninth at J-Bay, pretty stoked about that. It's my best result of the
year. The waves were so good. It was cold, but definitely worth it.
I've been back home in Tahiti and we've been getting some good waves
here. It's hard to leave, but it is really nice coming back.
Swell's been big here in South Africa. Surfed Dungeons, it was pretty heavy, but there were some winds. There's another swell coming, should be a little cleaner.
After J-Bay it's nice, there's a long break before we have to go to Trestles. This is my first year on tour, and it's good to finally have a break. It's a lot of work, and sometimes a lot of stress, but I'm enjoying myself. So far this year I've got all 17ths and one 33rd, and I'm sitting 30th. I could really use a good result. Trestles will be fun, and it will be really nice to get back home for the French contest.
I had a lot of fun in California for the U.S. Open. It's a crazy event, there's so many people. The waves this year were really good, so that was good. I've never seen California that big. After that I came back home, Hawaii seems so peaceful after all that. I guess school is coming up soon, it's been a fun summer so far. I'll talk to you soon. --C
Just been cruising with the boys at home. Hadn't been home in like five months, so it's good just to have some down time. Can't wait for Trestles, I'll be ready for sure.
