In just his second participation in the Junior Pro category, the Costa Rica national champion Carlos Muñoz, extended his winning streak to the Newport Beach waves by winning the Volcom VQS Championship Junior Pro category. Amongst the world's best surfers, Muñoz had leadership in every heat in the three days of competition and the highest scores in his category. Carli, as he is affectionately called by his fellow ticos, impressed every judge of the competition with a maneuver called the "Superman Air Walk".
