Julian Wilson

At 19 and with a win over Kelly Slater already under his belt, the surfing world is young gun Julian Wilson's oyster.

The gifted Queenslander has already got loyal sponsors, including Red Bull, movie deals and, most importantly, the moves on the board that many believe will take this successful junior right to the top of his sport.

It's as if he was born to surf and the truth is he just about was, with surfing mad parents who live just across the road from Coolum Beach.

"I would have been about three," he said of his first attempt at surfing.
"Pretty much as soon as I got out of a nappy. My mum and dad used to push me into the waves and I have loved it since the first day I tried it."

Initially, it was all about the love of surfing, but as time went and he continued to improve, it soon became something bigger and he started competing.

"It was just fun, it was what all my mates were doing so I did it too," he said.

"But I was getting results along the way, I rode long board and short board and won an Aussie title on long board. I won regional and state titles and stuff like that on the short board. I love free surfing as well, but I have that competitive drive."

With a junior world title to his credit in 2006 and wins in the Brothers Neilsen Pro Junior, on the Gold Coast, and O'Neill Mission in France this year, he's well on the way to living his dream.
"I want to be world champ, along with a lot of other people," he said with a laugh.
"I'll take it as it comes right

Putting For A Good Time

I'm so stoked. I was invited to go to the Titleist training center and got to work with master putter maker Scotty Cameron. It was really amazing to see all the work that goes into building golf clubs, a lot of technology involved. I've got a new, custom putter on the way. Don't know if it'll make a difference, but it's going to be a lot of fun to take out on the course and play around with.

Good to be back...

Since Hawaii, been back in Australia, surfed a few comps. Feeling better after the injury. Now off on a stealth mission with Red Bull crew. You'll find out where soon enough.

Finally on the mend

It's been a long summer/fall for Julian. He's been laid up ever since busting up his ankle while trotting out for a surf in California shortly after the U.S. Open. But things are looking brighter now. He's got plans to be on the North Shore and will finally be back in the water by then. He'll be posted up at the Red Bull Off The Wall house with a few of the other boys...but we'll tell you more about that later.

Checking in from Australia

Just got back from Bali after shooting with Taylor Steele, I'll probably be going back in a little bit. Other than that I've just been doing the junior events down here in Oz. The Quik Pro's coming up on the Gold Coast and I'm heading to that, but I think I've got Mick in my first heat.
